Dua puluh empat langkah

Twenty-four steps

Captains Mode opens with seven bans, then one pick for each team, three bans, six picks, four bans, and the final two picks. Fourteen bans and ten picks in total, so each captain gets seven bans and five picks.

Because the blocks are not even, moving first in one block does not mean moving first in the next. The order alternates, and that is why a late ban is worth more than an early one.

Who gets two picks in a row

In the six-pick block, one team picks twice in a row. That is the window to lock a pair, for example a carry and the support that shares its lane, before the enemy can answer.

The team without the double turn usually holds the last pick on step twenty-four. That slot is valuable because nine heroes are already visible and the weakest spot can finally be answered.

What the last pick is really worth

The last pick does not have to be the best hero on a tier list. Its value is information: the enemy has shown their lineup, you have not. As long as you save it for the slot that needs an answer, you hold the information edge at the end of the draft.

Spending the last pick on a hero you already needed at step eight throws that edge away for nothing.

Practising against the clock

The draft simulation here uses the same order, with fifteen seconds for the first ban, thirty seconds for the rest, and a 130-second reserve per captain. The reserve only covers time spent after the base clock runs out.

Practising with a clock changes decisions. On paper you can think for another ten seconds; in game, a late ban is simply lost and a late pick is randomised.
